Ed Fornieles Modern Family presented at
London’s Chisenhale Gallery
Monday, 28 July 2014
From 19 September – 9 November 2014 Polly Staple, winner of the 2014 Genesis Prize, presents a new exhibition by Ed Fornieles entitled Modern Family at London’s Chisenhale Gallery.
The Genesis Prize recognises an outstanding mentor of young artistic talent whose work has effected real change in the practice and careers of arts professionals or graduates. Polly was recipient of the £25,000 award in 2014 and is using part of the money towards commissioning this major new body of work by Ed Fornieles, a London and Los-Angeles-based artist.
Modern Family will be Ed’s first solo exhibition in a UK institution and skews the material logic of home improvement, sitcom architecture and the shopping mall, taking us on a journey to a distant yet familiar suburban land. A new online work forms the basis of the commission and will be presented alongside sculpture and performance within an ambitious installation environment.

‘Modern Family’ at the Chisenhale Gallery
This new work builds on Fornieles’s recent sculptures, installations and web-based projects – such as the ‘Facebook sitcom’, Dormdaze (2011) and Maybe New Friends (2013), an ongoing performance by Twitterbots – which explore the impact of the virtual on the physical world.
