Elyse Dodgson leads Russian language workshop in New York

Elyse Dodgson, Head of the International Department at the Royal Court, is teaming up with the Public Theater in New York and the Actors Touring Company to host a Russian language workshop supported by the Genesis Foundation.

In the 1960s, Elyse’s mother filmed a documentary about life in Coney Island, a film now lost. That missing film and her own family’s emigration from Eastern Europe to New York’s Brighton Beach inspired her to commission the playwrights to spend two weeks in Brighton Beach and turn their findings into new work.

The workshop will involve three of the most important contemporary Russian language playwrights in Europe today, Natasha Vorozhbit (Ukraine), Pavel Pryazhko (Belarus) and Mikhail Durnenkov (Russia).

They will be joined by Elyse, Ramin Gray (Artistic Director of the Actors Touring Company), and translator Sasha Dugdale to introduce their new project at Shorefront Y.
