First Genesis Sixteen group graduates on a high note

First Genesis Sixteen group graduates on a high note

Monday, 28 August 2012

The Genesis Foundation celebrates the graduation of the first Genesis Sixteen intake with a series of new behind-the-scenes photographs. Taken during the Genesis Sixteen’s Oxford residency from 29 July to 4 August 2012, they showcase the group in rehearsal for their performance at Magdalen College.

Supported by the Genesis Foundation as part of UK’s first fully-funded choral programme for young singers, the 22 members of the Genesis Sixteen ensemble began their journey over a year ago. They have since participated in regular weekend and week-long master classes, under the guidance of distinguished artists including Associate Conductor of The Sixteen Eamonn Dougan and Founder and Conductor, Harry Christophers. A testament to their success, their lunchtime performance in Oxford on Saturday 4 August was included as a ‘Critic’s Choice’ by Richard Morrison in The Times; ending their residency on a high.

Genesis Sixteen member Nancy Cole says of her experience:

“I think I speak for all of Genesis Sixteen when I say how exhilarating it has been. We have been advised and trained by the country’s top musicians and given a wonderful insight into how we may become part of this profession ourselves.”

The inaugural Genesis Sixteen will make a final appearance together in December at London’s Barbican Centre for Handel’s Messiah, where they will be performing alongside The Sixteen under Harry Christophers.
