Former Genesis Fellow Joe-Hill Gibbins directs new play at Almeida Theatre

Joe Hill-Gibbins

Former Young Vic Genesis Fellow and current Artistic Associate of the Young Vic, Joe Hill-Gibbins will direct Alecky Blythe’s new play, Little Revolution, at London’s Almeida Theatre from 3 September – 4 October 2014.

Little Revolution was inspired by the 2011 London riots when Blythe took her Dictaphone to the streets. From the helicopters circling overhead to the burnt out buildings on the street, this explosive new play records the voices and stories of a community as the riots happened to their present-day aftermath.

The cast includes Ronni Ancona, Melanie Ash, Alecky Blythe, Bayo Gbadamosi, Lloyd Hutchinson, Rez Kempton, Barry McCarthy, Lucian Msamati, Clare Perkins, Michael Shaeffer, Imogen Stubbs and Rufus Wright.

The Genesis Fellowship is a two-year grant that enables its recipient to work closely with artistic director David Lan at the Young Vic as they continue to develop their craft as a theatre director. Joe Hill-Gibbins is now an acclaimed theatre director, whose career has gone from strength to strength since his time as Genesis Fellow from 2010-2012, seeing him direct critically-acclaimed and sell-out productions of The Changeling (2012), The Glass Menagerie (2010) and The Beauty of Queen Leenane (2011). Most recently he made his directorial debut at ENO with Thomas Adès’s chamber opera Powder Her Face.
