Genesis Sixteen London residency and alumni news

Genesis Sixteen’s 22 young singers will take part in their third intensive course of the programme at London’s National Opera Studio on 8 to 10 February.

The singers will work closely with Harry Christophers and Eamonn Dougan on repertoire spanning the centuries – from 16th century composer Christopher Tye to contemporary choral work by James MacMillan – before performing an informal, free concert in Blackburn Hall at 4.30pm on Sunday 10 February.

It has also been a busy few months for Genesis Sixteen alumni, with many former members securing professional work and gaining places at some of the country’s most prestigious music conservatoires.

Molly Alexander and Harry Bennett recently took part in a Spitalfields Winter Festival project alongside trainee players from the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and animateur Sam Glazer. The Musical Rumpus Tour is an interactive musical performance for babies and toddlers based on Purcell’s opera The Fairy Queen, which toured to local libraries and community centres. Tom Kelly, Ben Clark and Harry Bennett were recently accepted on the Spitalfields Music Leader Trainee Scheme, which enables musicians at the beginning of their career to take their first steps in exploring work within learning and community settings. Several alumni have also played a key role in delivering The Sixteen’s THAMES education project, working with state schools from the Tower Hamlets Borough.

Tenor Will Morgan has accepted a place the Royal College of Music and Elizabeth Adams has been offered a place at Birmingham Conservatoire – both begin their studies in Autumn 2013. Current soprano Daisy Walford has been offered a place on the MA Vocal Course at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

A group of ten alumni members have formed their own choir, Fieri Consort. They gave their debut concert at St Martin-in-the-Fields as part of the Brandenburg Choral Festival in January.
