Genesis Sixteen is seeking talented ensemble singers – apply now!

Harry Christophers has started the search for the next generation of talented ensemble singers to join the 2015-16 group of Genesis Sixteen, The Sixteen’s free young artists’ scheme. Now in its fifth year, Genesis Sixteen continually seeks to nurture singers with exceptional musical ability, providing them with invaluable networking opportunities as they make the transition from student to professional singer. Participants receive group tuition, individual mentoring and master classes run by some of the industry’s top vocal experts.

During the course of a year, a series of week-long and weekend courses are led by key figures from The Sixteen, including founder and conductor Harry Christophers and Associate Conductor Eamonn Dougan.

The programme is funded by the Genesis Foundation enabling participants not only to receive free tuition, but also a bursary to cover all additional costs.

Working with its partners, the Genesis Foundation’s strong nature, nurture and network ethos sets talented young people firmly on the path to fulfilling their creative and professional potential. This is certainly the case with Genesis Sixteen. Since graduating, many alumni are now performing, recording and touring with professional groups including The Sixteen and a number have gone onto set up their own very successful choirs. The examples below show the recent success of some members from the first, third and current cohorts:

On Wednesday 19 November Eo Nomine, a solo-voice quintet formed from members of the first year of Genesis Sixteen, will present their first London solo concert. Established in 2013, Eo Nomine have already performed at the Camden Roundhouse, Cambridge Early Music Festival, live on BBC Radio 3 In Tune and individually have performed with The Sixteen. Their concert features a programme of madrigals by Gesualdo, Monteverdi, Schütz and Wilbye. For more information on this concert, click here.

Tim Morgan, a countertenor from Genesis Sixteen 3, has just been awarded the 2014 Junior Ferrier Prize (also known as the Kathleen Ferrier Society Bursary for Young Singers). As a winner of the bursary, Tim will receive £3,000 prize money spread over three years, as well as mentoring and support for his early career from the judges.

The current Genesis Sixteen group, Genesis Sixteen 4, are about to start their second course in Manchester. As part of the experience of learning their craft under the guidance of The Sixteen, they will be performing on stage with Harry Christophers and The Sixteen at Bridgewater Hall on Friday 14 November performing Martin’s ‘Agnus Dei’ from Mass for Double Choir and Fauré’s much loved Requiem.
