Genesis Sixteen soprano crowned NI Opera Voice of 2013

Genesis Sixteen (2) member Sinéad O’Kelly was crowned Northern Ireland Opera Voice of 2013 after a gala final on 1 September. Belfast-born Sinéad impressed the judges and wowed the sell-out audience winning both the top prize and the audience prize.  Sinéad’s winning programme included songs by Donizetti, Bizet, Monteverdi, Fauré and Barber and she will now be invited to perform with NI Opera.

Sinead said:

“I’m thrilled to have won the Festival of Voice final. It’s been an intense but hugely rewarding weekend, and I think all the finalists have learnt an enormous amount from the coaches. I can’t wait to start working and performing with NI Opera, and I’m already looking forward to returning to Glenarm to perform at next year’s Festival!”

Judges included David Gowland, Artistic Director of the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden; Kathryn Harries, Director of the National Opera Studio in London; and Iain Burnside, broadcaster and pianist.

Belfast-born soprano Sinéad O’Kelly is studying for her BMus in Vocal Performance at the Royal College of Music. A member of Harry Christophers’ Genesis Sixteen and the newly established National Portrait Gallery Choir, Sinéad performs regularly in London and Northern Ireland.
