Harry Christophers and James Macmillan assemble UK’s leading choirs for Stabat Mater workshop day

The Genesis Foundation has commissioned three new Stabat Maters which had their world premiere performances by The Sixteen at LSO St Luke’s earlier this week. Following this, Harry Christophers, James MacMillan and Eamonn Dougan will lead a workshop on Saturday 7 June with some of the UK’s foremost amateur choirs, alongside young choral conductors from the Royal Academy of Music, Birmingham Conservatoire and the Royal Welsh College of Music.

The day will open with a seminar on conducting and programming these new commissions by Alissa Firsova, Tõnu Kõrvits and Matthew Martin. Following this, the singers will be split into three choirs to work on each of the pieces with Harry, Eamonn and James, rotating after each session. The composers will be present to offer advice on interpretation and performance values.
