OPEN COURT – SUMMER 2013

The Royal Court Theatre presents Lasha Bughadze’s The President Has Come To See You on the main stage and a week of international work exploring five countries hit by European Austerity in The Big Idea: PIIGS in the upstairs Jerwood Theatre.

The President Has Come To See You, an absurd comedy about cowardice and power, opens the Royal Court’s Weekly Rep series on Tuesday 11 June. Lasha Bughadze is a dynamic Georgian playwright who in 2011 won the BBC World Service and British Council International Radio Playwriting Competition for The Navigator. The President Has Come To See You runs on the Royal Court main stage until Saturday 15 June and is part of the summer weekly rep series where a new play will be produced every week, for six weeks, from one ensemble of 14 actors and four directors.

From 25 June, The Big Idea: PIIGS will see five evenings of events and plays exploring European austerity. Evenings will include creative response plays and verbatim conversations reported, translated and put on stage within 24 hours of them happening.
