Genesis Prize winner Polly Staple presents new exhibition at Chisenhale Gallery

Polly Staple, recipient of the 2014 Genesis Prize, presents an exciting Chisenhale Gallery exhibition comprising a newly commissioned feature-length film and installation of sculptures by Jumana Manna. Following the success of Patrick Staff’s The Foundation earlier this year, Staple and the Chisenhale Gallery present Berlin-based Palestinian artist Jumana Manna’s first UK solo exhibition, exploring the role of cultural narratives in Palestine. The exhibition, which runs from 18 September – 13 December 2015, is the third project at the Chisenhale Gallery to be part-funded by the Genesis Foundation.

The Genesis Prize recognises an outstanding mentor of young artistic talent whose work has effected real change in the practice and careers of arts professionals or graduates. The £25,000 award is the first and only one of its kind to recognise individuals who give others the confidence and inspiration to achieve artistic excellence in their chosen arts field.

Polly staple won the 2014 Genesis Prize after impressing judges by “creating a programme that presents new artists on an international stage at the highest possible level,” and making “a real impact on the artistic life of the country and in particular the East End, where the Chisenhale Gallery is based.”

Jumana Manna’s exhibition explores the ways in which power is articulated through relationships and comprises a newly commissioned feature-length film, A magical substance flows into me (2015), presented alongside an installation of sculptures.
