Tuesday, 19 November 2013
Genesis-supported composer Isidora Žebeljan sees her new CD of chamber music Balkan Bolero released on the Oboe Classics Label this month. Written for her husband, virtuoso oboe and cor anglais player Borislav Čičovački, the CD is a survey of Žebeljan’s distinct style, which combines the folk music tradition of Eastern Europe with that of the West to produce music of passion, tragedy and exuberance.
The Genesis Foundation first encountered Isidora at the Genesis Opera Project workshops in 2002 where an early version of her opera, Zora D, was developed and subsequently commissioned by the Foundation. The Genesis Foundation has also commissioned Isidora to write two new works, Song of Traveller in the Night (2003) which has been performed all over the world following its Wigmore Hall premiere, and The Marathon Family (2008).
