Painter Anna Liber-Lewis Awarded Genesis Foundation Scholarship at the Royal College of Art (2013–15)

This year’s Genesis Foundation RCA Scholarship has been awarded to painter Anna Liber-Lewis, a Fine Art graduate from Central Saint Martins. The prize covers funds for fees for the two-year duration of Anna’s MA studies in Painting at the RCA  and provides a yearly materials allowance.

Anna begins her studies at the RCA in the autumn and comes to the college with a wealth of experience and expertise. Most recently she was awarded the Moich Abrahams Prize for most Innovative work for her painting Gherkin at the London Group’s Centenary Awards.

As well as curating and managing galleries, her social interests have led her to a freelancing career managing community outreach programmes for charities such as ‘Creative Partnerships’ and ‘Groundworks’.

Anna’s work plays with the space between humour and fear. In her own words, her paintings ‘depict the stuff – the detritus – of daily life suggesting a narrative that hovers outside the frame: a latent violence and the loss of innocence’.

Anna Liber-Lewis is the third recipient of the Genesis Foundation scholarship at the RCA. Previous award winners are photographers Greta Alfaro (2009–2011) and Joanna Piotrowska (2011–13).
