Royal Court presents New Plays from India

Royal Court presents New Plays from India

Monday, 12 November 2012

The Royal Court presents a season of readings by Indian playwrights from 12 to 17 November in the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs as part of its ground-breaking International Playwrights project supported by the Genesis Foundation.

Five writers will have their plays performed as rehearsed readings in English before all the writers come together to discuss new writing in contemporary India at the end of the week.

New Plays from India, in collaboration with Rage Productions, Mumbai, began in 2010 with 12 writers from all over India who were challenged to write a play asking urgent questions about their changing country. Over 18 months, playwrights April De Angelis and Carl Miller and the Royal Court’s Elyse Dodgson worked with the writers to develop their plays, which were performed as part of the Writers Bloc Festival at the Prithvi Theatre, Mumbai, in January 2012. Five of these plays have now been chosen to be showcased at the Royal Court in London.
