Spirit, Strength and Sorrow enters America’s iTunes Classical Chart at Number Eight

Spirit, Strength and Sorrow enters America’s iTunes Classical Chart at Number Eight

Sunday, 30 November 2014

Spirit, Strength and Sorrow, the new album from Harry Christophers and The Sixteen funded by the Genesis Foundation, is proving a hit with American audiences, entering the US iTunes Classical Chart at number eight following a feature on the album on America’s National Public Radio.

Spirit, Strength & Sorrow

The recording features three new settings of the Stabat Mater text commissioned by the Genesis Foundation and written by leading contemporary composers Alissa Firsova, Tõnu Kõrvits and Matthew Martin.  These new works are accompanied on the album by plainsong chant, and Renaissance and Baroque settings of the Stabat Mater by Claudio Casciolini and Domenico Scarlatti.

Listen to the NPR piece, including interviews with the composers and audio samples, here.

To purchase the album, visit The Sixteen’s website or download it from iTunes.
