Standing ovation for Isidora Žebeljan’s new opera

Standing ovation for Isidora Žebeljan’s new opera

Friday, 27 July 2012

Genesis-supported Serbian composer Isidora Žebeljan has received acclaim for her new comic fairly-tale opera, Two Heads and a Girl, which received its world premiere at the Teatro dei Rozzi in Siena on 12 July. The opera, attended by Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands, was met with a standing ovation from the audience.

The Genesis Foundation first encountered Isidora at the Genesis Opera Project workshops in 2002 where an early version of her opera, Zora D, was developed. The Genesis Foundation has since commissioned Isidora to write two new works, Song of Traveller in the Night (2003) which has been performed all over the world following its Wigmore Hall premiere, and The Marathon Family (2008).
