The Royal Court travels to Ukraine

The Royal Court travels to Ukraine

Friday, 2 December 2011

The Royal Court is working with writers from the Ukraine and Georgia in the latest phase of its ground-breaking International Playwrights project supported by the Genesis Foundation.

Elyse Dodgson, Head of the theatre’s International Department, will lead development work with Ukrainian and Georgian playwrights from 4 to 10 December in Lviv, Ukraine. This follows her successful trip to Tbilisi in May 2011 with playwrights Nick Payne and April De Angelis to launch the first phase of the project.

This time Elyse and April are joined by Ramin Gray, Artistic Director of the Actors Touring Company and formerly Associate Director of the Royal Court.

Together, they will work on new plays written in Georgian, Russian and Ukrainian by 12 playwrights: Basa Janikashvili, Bacho Kvirtia, Davit Gabunia, Nestan Kvinikadze, Lasha Bugadze and Data Tavadze from Georgia, and Pavlo Arie, Mariam Agamyan, Oksana Savchenko, Maryna Sokolyan, Vira Makoviy and Yevgeniy Markovskiy from Ukraine.
