Carrie Cracknell appointed new Genesis Fellow at the Young Vic

The Genesis Foundation is delighted to announce that theatre director Carrie Cracknell has been appointed as the latest Genesis Fellow at the Young Vic, starting in April 2012.
Over the next two years, the Fellowship will enable Carrie to work closely with the Young Vic’s Artistic Director David Lan to develop her craft, and mentor directors on the Young Vic Directors Programme.
Speaking of her new role, Carrie says,
“The energy, invention, verve and soul of the Young Vic have long been an inspiration to me, and I have always wanted to be involved in the work of this unique building. As a director, I gained so much from the Young Vic Directors Programme, and the opportunities it gave me to experiment and hone my craft were invaluable. I am thrilled now, to be involved at the very heart of the artistic life of the building, and to work alongside the next generation of emerging directors.”
David Lan says,
“Carrie Cracknell is already a powerful and original theatrical presence. She is also an experienced artistic director and we’re delighted to welcome her to the team. We are extremely grateful to the Genesis Foundation and are thrilled to be continuing our longstanding relationship with them.”

In her first project as a Genesis Fellow, Carrie will team up with writer Simon Stephens and designer Ian MacNeil to direct a new version of Henrik Ibsen’s 19th century classic, A Doll’s House, which runs from 29 June to 26 July.
Carrie is the second recipient of the Genesis Fellowship. Her appointment follows that of Joe Hill-Gibbins in 2010.
Carrie Cracknell was formerly artistic director of the Gate Theatre (2007–2011), where her productions included Elektra (a co-production with the Young Vic), Breathing Irregular, Hedda, I Am Falling, Armageddon, Shoot/Get Treasure/Repeat and The Sexual Neuroses of Our Parents. Other directing credits include Dolls (National Theatre of Scotland), Stacy (The Tron, Glasgow), A Mobile Thriller (National Tour and The Harbourfront, Toronto) and Broken Road (winner of a 2005 Edinburgh Fringe First Award).
The Genesis Foundation, established in 2001 by John Studzinski, supports and nurtures young artistic talent.
