Sam McAvoy (class of 2014)

Sam McAvoy

Sam was born in Nottingham, where he lived for four years before moving to Belgium and then York, where he has lived for most of his life. Sam has been performing from a very young age but had never comprehended acting as a career until being accepted into the National Youth Theatre at the age of 13. In 2007, he was asked to perform in White Boy at the Soho Theatre, which proved to be an invaluable experience for him as a young performer, giving him an insight into the profession. Following this, he appeared in Victory Street at the Lowry Theatre, Manchester.

Since then, Sam has been seeking to push himself as a performer through various productions at local youth theatres such as Riding Lights where he played Judas in The Mystery Plays and Justice Overdo in Bartholomew Fair. It was during this time that Sam decided to audition for LAMDA as he turned 18 on the day term was due to start. With no expectations of getting in and therefore no inhibitions, he auditioned and was accepted onto the Three Year Acting Course. Since starting at the Academy in 2010, Sam has thrown himself into his training and is loving every aspect of life at LAMDA.
